1656
Permission is granted for the construction of a forge hammer at the Visman estuary, forming the basis for the town of Björneborg’s growth and development. Scana Booforge had been established four years earlier in nearby Karlskoga.
1987
Scana Industrier is founded following a merger between ScanArmatur AS and ScanPaint AS.
1989
Scana Industrier acquires the actuator and valve control system manufacturer Scana Skarpenord AS.
1991
Scana Industrier acquires Stavanger Staal AS, now Scana Steel Stavanger AS.
1993
Scana Industrier acquires Björneborgs Järnverk AB, now Scana Steel Björneborg AB, one of the oldest ironworks in the world.
1994
Scana Industrier acquires a company steeped in forging traditions – Booforge AB, now Scana Steel Booforge AB. Booforge AB had entered operation in 1646 and was previously run by Alfred Nobel's Bofors.
1995
Scana Industrier is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
1996
Scana Steel Stavanger AS secures its own power supply through the licence award to the company Jørpeland Kraft AS, a third of which is owned by Scana.
1997
Scana establishes itself in China through the joint venture Leshan Scana Machinery Company Ltd.
1998
Scana buys Volda Mekaniske Verksted AS, now Scana Volda AS.
1999
Scana signs an agreement with Caterpillar, making Scana Volda a preferred supplier of propellers, reduction gears and control systems for Caterpillar's diesel engines.
2000
The Board of Directors of Scana Industrier appoints Odd Torland as Group Chief Executive Officer. Frode Alhaug joins the Scana board. This year was also Scana Korea Hydraulic Ltd.’s first complete year of operation. By collaborating with Scana Skarpenord AS and Scana Korea Hydraulic Ltd., Scana increases its market share considerably in one of the world’s largest shipbuilding countries.
2001
Scana increases its capital, giving the company NOK 106 million in new share capital.
2002
Scana Volda enters into a strategic collaboration with a Czech supplier of small and medium-sized gears. The agreement entails major cost savings for Scana, thus giving it an increased competitive edge in a tough market.
2003
Leshan Scana Machinery Co. Ltd. achieves its first year with a positive net profit after having struggled with poor results since 1997. The investment company Stålinvest AS (owned by Scana management) buys former Chairman Smedvig’s majority shareholding in Scana. Frode Alhaug succeeds Peter Smedvig as Chairman of the board of Scana.
2004
Scana Korea Hydraulic becomes one of five subcontractors to be awarded the prestigious “Quality Gold Mark” by Samsung Heavy Industries, one of the world’s largest shipyards.
2005
Scana establishes the offshore service company Scana Offshore Technology AS in collaboration with International Oilfield Services AS. The new company aims to further develop the group’s activities, and to ensure growth within the international petroleum industry.
2006
Scana acquires the companies Brødrene Johnsen AS and AMT AS, now Scana Offshore Vestby AS and Scana AMT AS, in collaboration with International Oilfield Services AS. The acquisitions confirm the company’s stated objectives for growth and the further development of the group’s activities within the international petroleum industry.
2007
Scana’s turnover increases by 29 per cent and the group achieves operating margins in line with targets. Productivity in the group’s most important subsidiaries is very high.
2008
Scana’s turnover reaches almost NOK 2.9 billion as a result of high activity levels in all of the groups key areas. Scana Offshore Services is established through the acquisition of business in Houston. The new company strengthens Scana’s position in the USA and Singapore.
2009
Scana buys ABB’s marine activities in Poland and establishes Scana Zamech Sp.Zo.o. The acquisition strengthens and complements Scana’s activities within Marine. Scana’s new venture in Brazil offers access to significant opportunities for growth in an exciting market.
