Scana Steel Booforge is a world leader in the production of large arms for forklift trucks – arms that can lift in excess of 10 tonnes. With the company´s expertise in free form forging, Scana Steel Booforge can compose large forks and other forged products according to any specification with stringent demands for strength.
In 2009 Scana Booforge bought the property of the liquidated Ljyngby Mekan AB. After this investment, Booforge now manufactures masts and frames and thus supplies complete lifting systems for forklift trucks in the heavy segment.
Scana Steel Booforge was founded more than 350 years ago, just like its sister company Björneborg. Production started way back in 1646 in Karlskoga, which makes Booforge Scana’s oldest company – and one of the oldest ironworks in the world. Alfred Nobel’s Bofors later ran the company. Since 1994, the company has been a part of the Scana group.
Market and customers
The company is mainly aimed at forklift truck and machine manufacturers, as well as other steelworks. In addition the company has customers within oil and gas and the food industry. The customers are primarily located in the Nordic region and in other parts of Europe. Scana Steel Booforge exports approximately 15 % of its production. The company’s largest customers include Cargotec, Konecranes, Svetruck, Sandvik, Alfa Laval, Moorlink and Scana Steel Björneborg. The market for Scana Steel Booforge’s products are still low as a result of the financial crisis, but is expected to revitalise in the medium term.
Products
Scana Steel Booforge’s main products are: • Forged arms for forklift trucks • Lifting equipment for forklift trucks • Heat treatment of larger goods • Free form forged components
Scana Steel Booforge manufactures forks to a large portion of the global market for trucks in excess of 8 tonnes.
During 2009 Scana Steel Booforge invested in a new production line for our lifting arms for forklift trucks. This investment frees up capacity in the forge units, enabling us to produce complicated individual solutions according to customer requirements, as well as standardised arms. Thus, we are well prepared to meet the market requirements in the following years.
