Managing director: Inge Kvalvik Employees: 25 Turnover: NOK 41 million
Scana Offshore Technology primarily carries out maintenance and repair of equipment for the oil and gas industries, and manufacture tools and equipment for such work. In addition, the company coordinates Scana’s marketing efforts aimed at the international oil and gas industries for products, components and special steel.
Scana Offshore Technology was established in December 2005. Scana is now the sole owner of the company. The company shares premises with Scana Materials Technology Centre and Scana Wikov at Jørpeland, near Stavanger, where Scana Steel Stavanger is also located. As at 31st December 2008, the company had 25 employees and a turnover of NOK 41 million.
Market and customers
The company’s customers are oil companies, equipment manufacturers and drilling companies in the petroleum industry. Scana Offshore Technology had an increase in turnover of 27 per cent compared to 2007. This is mainly due to a high level of activity and good prices in the market. The company has kept up with demand by investing in new machinery and welding equipment, tools and equipment and by employing additional engineering staff at a new 800 square metre mechanical workshop.
Products
Scana Offshore Technology organises its activities in three main areas:
Maintenance and repair of mechanical and hydraulic equipment
Manufacture of components and equipment
Machining and welding
When the company was founded, the intention was to collaborate actively with the other Scana group companies – and the most important area for this collaboration is the oil & gas sector. The company coordinates Scana Forum, which is a forum for the exchange of information and strategies within oil and gas. We create potential through this and have also increased the level of activity.
Scana has a strong market position within the manufacture of components for the petroleum industry and the company will also attain the same position within maintenance and repair work in close cooperation with equipment manufacturers. This is a market area with short delivery deadlines and the company shall grow in line with its customers and increase the capacity of machinery and personnel accordingly. Our largest customers, National Oilwell Varco and the drilling contractor Seadrill, are experiencing an increasing workload and a major increase in their sales. This in turn means a major increase for us in the planned upgrades and recertifications.
We will be starting to look at new product areas and services that are compatible with the portfolio within heavy drilling and processing equipment. One of the areas we are investigating is the potential for developing various hydraulic tools that will enable oil companies to repair subsea equipment themselves. In addition, Scana Offshore Technology has a strong focus on the repair of compensating equipment and marine risers.
