An example on how Scana´s capabilities in Engineering, fabrication, thermal coating and assembling can lead to success, Is the “Deployment Machine” for our customer Sonardyne International LTD in the UK.
The “Deployment Machine” is the result of a successful co-operation between Scana Offshore Vestby AS and Sonardyne International LTD, where Scana has contributed to the engineering, fabrication, thermal coating and assembly. The combination of our unique material know-how, practical design, construction and Sonardyne´s technology and product development, has given the “Deployment Machine” a strong position in the market place. Since the first machine was developed in 1996 we have delivered nearly 200 units.
The “Deployment Machine” is a custom made machine for acoustic positioning system used for marine and offshore installations worldwide. The primary role for an acoustic positioning system on for instance a mobile drilling unit, is to provide accurate and repeatable sub sea positioning for the vessel’s Dynamic Positioning (DP) system. Requirements for vessels to work in close proximity to each other and, in some instances, adopt the use of two independent acoustic systems, are demands that further extend the requirement for advanced acoustic signalling technology.
Sonardyne is a UK based company, which supplies sub sea acoustic systems for navigation, positioning and communications. The machine’s role is to lower the acoustic equipment (transducer) into the water beneath the vessel. The systems are being installed in supply boats, support vessels and drilling rigs.
The machine consists of a hydraulically operated pole, a sealed bearing section and a service section. The whole machine with its gate valve is mounted on the hull penetration flange. The pole has been thermally coated with a specially developed Scanalayer to protect it from corrosion. The combination of material selection, surface treatment and sound engineering helps Sonardyne and their customers save weight, time and money.
The entire machine is manufactured in our workshop at Vestby, where we do the welding, machining, thermal spraying of the pole and assembly.
Scana Offshore Vestby’s Service Department assists the client, ship owners and yards by inspection, maintenance and installation whenever needed.
