Monday before Easter, an urgent request for assistance was sent from Aker MH to Scana Offshore Vestby AS. A main shaft onboard Aker Barents was damaged, and the repair had to be done offshore. Operator, mobile turning unit and necessary equipment arrived onboard the next day, followed by a certified welder. The job was started directly, and by Easter Day, the shaft was repaired.
Two solutions for the task were planned:
Equipment for both solutions was mobilized, and onboard it was decided to go for solution number 1, since this gave the most controlled work process. The damage on the shaft was welded up, and machined back to original measures. After the repair the shaft was measured and controlled, and the system was pressure tested.
The Scana Offshore Vestby AS Service Statement says:
“Service assignments require that we are always ready to adapt to new situations. This flexibility is required and embraced in all levels in the organisation. We shall be ready to step in whenever and wherever requested.”
This assignment gave the opportunity to prove this.
Scana Offshore Vestby AS has dedicated service personnel for work offshore, on site and in our workshop at Vestby. Our service personnel are used to handling work permit systems and safe job analyses (SJA) as a natural part of the working day.
